Advanced AEMT Program

CURRICULUM

Our Advanced EMT (AEMT) program meets the NREMT and State of Alaska AEMT program requirements. Students completing the program may take the NREMT AEMT skills and written tests and apply for the State of Alaska EMT-A certification upon successful completion. The program is a blended-learning format based on a recommended 16 week schedule. Students complete 15 weeks of online learning while participating in weekly Virtual Instructor-Led Training and attend In-Person Skills Labs.

  • The course kicks-off on March 1, 2023 but students can start anytime after March 1st because the online content is asynchronous.

  • The course is based on a suggested 16-week schedule with an initial 3-day in-person skills session (for EMT’s only) and a week long in-person skills session at the end of the course. However, students can take longer if needed based on their work schedule and work/life issues. It might take some students 32 weeks or longer based on their individual need.

  • Almost. Students can work online at their own pace to complete the reading assignments, lectures, homework and quizzes. Students can also attend Zoom sessions each week for additional lecture, discussions, Q&A, and exam reviews. Students must attend a 3-day initial skills session early in the course (for EMT’s only) then attend a week-long in-person skills session at the end of the course (for EMT, EMT2 and EMT3).

  • Students should plan to spend 10-12 hours each week in order to complete the course in the 16 week schedule. But some students cannot devote 10-12 hours per week so it will take them a little longer to complete the program. Some students may elect to spend more time per week and complete the course work faster.

  • Yes. EMT2’s and 3’s get advanced-standing in the AKAEMT course. They can opt-out of specific sections of the course work and they are not required to attend the initial 3-day in- person skills session. However, EMT2’s and 3’s must pass all Unit Exams with a score of 80% or higher and satisfactorily complete the week-long in-person skills session at the end of the course.

  • Yes. EMT2’s and 3’s needing more review or who want to get more training can complete the entire AKAEMT course and attend all of the labs if they want to.

  • Yes! Each student is assigned an experienced instructor to assist with technology-related issues, answer questions, and discuss challenging topics. Students can communicate with their instructor through the Learning Management System, text message, phone, and Zoom video-conferencing. Students will see their instructor giving video lectures as well. Students will also interact with their instructor and the whole team on the weekly Zoom sessions and again at the in-person during the skills sessions.

  • The tuition for the AKAEMT course is $2950 for 4 months of access, then $150 per month after 4 months until course completion. This includes course registration, access to our Learning Management System and eTextbook, access to our testing platform, access to the game-based learning system, the weekly Zoom sessions, and lab materials and supplies. Travel and lodging to the in-person skills labs are not included in the course tuition.

  • EMT’s must attend an initial 3-day In-Person Skills Session early in the course and then a week-long In-Person Skills Session at the very end. EMT 2’s and 3’s only need to attend the week-long In-Person Skills Session at the very end of the course but they can come to the initial 3-day skills session too.

  • The In-Person Skills Sessions will be held in various locations across the state to accommodate students in different regions of the state. Some sessions will be held in Fairbanks, Anchorage, Juneau, and Nome. If your department or agency has several students that need to complete the In-Person skills at the same time we can do the In-Person Skills Sessions at your location.
